How To Mix Faith And Business (Without Being Cringe)
In this teaching, Kap Chatfield unpacks why many well-intentioned Christian leaders unintentionally limit their impact by leading with religious language instead of real value. Drawing from Scripture, leadership principles, and real-world examples, Kap reveals a wiser, more effective approach to Kingdom influence, one that Jesus Himself modeled. This episode will challenge how you think about faith, leadership, and results. You’ll discover why excellence creates trust, why wisdom is proven by outcomes, and how your business can become a bridge instead of a barrier. If you want to honor God, serve people well, and lead with clarity in today’s world, this conversation will reshape how you build.
Leading with religious slogans is the fastest way to kill your professional influence.
You think you are being bold for the Gospel by putting a cross in your logo or quoting a verse in your email signature. But if your product is mediocre, you aren't being a witness. You are being a liability.
The Kingdom of God is not advanced through branding. It is advanced through the demonstration of power and the provision of value.
The Problem With Performance
Most Christian founders lead with their labels because they are afraid their labor won't stand on its own. They use "faith-based" as a shield to protect themselves from the rigors of the free market.
That is not biblical stewardship. It is spiritual laziness. When you hide behind a Christian label, you signal to the world that you prioritize your subculture over your customer.
The world does not need more Christian businesses. It needs more Christians who are better at business than everyone else.
Proverbs 22:29 "Do you see a man who excels in his work? He will stand before kings; he will not stand before unknown men."
Excellence is the price of admission to the high places of culture. If you want to talk to kings, your work has to be undeniable.
Excellence creates the trust that makes your faith worth listening to later. Without it, your message has no legs.
Faith Is Your Engine Not Your Exhaust
Your relationship with the Holy Spirit should be the secret advantage of your operation. It should not be the marketing gimmick you use to guilt people into buying from you.
Jesus did not walk into a village and demand everyone acknowledge His divinity before He healed their sick. He met the felt need first.
He provided a result that no one else could provide. Then, and only then, did He explain the source of His authority.
Business is no different. You lead with the solution to the problem.
When your client asks how you stayed so calm during a crisis, or how you came up with a strategy that saved their company, that is your opening. You don't give them a pamphlet. You give them the truth about the Spirit of Wisdom.
Colossians 4:5 "Walk in wisdom toward those who are outside, redeeming the time."
Wisdom is practical. It produces outcomes that make people stop and wonder.
If your "faith" doesn't result in better systems and higher ROI for your clients, it probably isn't faith. It’s just religious tradition.
Building Bridges Instead of Barriers
Religious language often acts as a barrier to the very people God has called you to reach. Your industry has a specific vocabulary, and you need to master it.
Daniel was the most influential leader in Babylon because he was ten times better than the magicians and astrologers. He didn't win because he refused to learn their language.
He won because he mastered their language and then used it to point them back to the Ancient of Days. He understood that his competence was his currency.
Daniel 1:20 "And in all matters of wisdom and understanding about which the king examined them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and astrologers who were in all his realm."
Being "ten times better" is a spiritual mandate. It is how you take back culture.
When you are the best at what you do, people will follow you anywhere. They will listen to your worldview because they respect your work ethic.
Don't be the "Christian architect." Be the best architect in the city who happens to be a radical follower of Jesus.

The goal of your business is to solve problems and create value in a way that reflects the character of God. This requires a shift in focus from your reputation to your results.
The Mechanism of Influence
Real influence is earned through consistency over time. It is not something you can manufacture with a trendy brand identity.
You mix faith and business by bringing the fruit of the Spirit into every transaction. That means integrity when it costs you money.
It means being a leader who serves instead of a boss who demands. People are looking for a reason to believe that God is real.
Your P&L statement and your employee retention rate provide more evidence than a fish symbol on your business card. When the Holy Spirit directs your decisions, your business should look supernatural.
Matthew 5:16 "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven."
Notice Jesus said they would see your works, not your words. The works lead to the glory.
You take back culture by occupying the top of your industry with the humility of a servant and the skill of a master.
Stop trying to be "Christian." Start being excellent.
God is glorified when His people win at the highest levels.
