Is A.I. the Antichrist’s Tool or a Wake-Up Call for the Church? with Leigh Bortins

What does it look like to live a truly Spirit-directed life in a world obsessed with speed, technology, and performance? In this powerful episode, Kap Chatfield sits down with Leigh Bortins, founder of Classical Conversations and aerospace engineer turned homeschool pioneer. Together, they explore what it means to slow down, listen to the Holy Spirit, and walk in step with God’s timing even in a fast-moving age of AI, blockchain, and cultural chaos. Leigh shares her incredible journey from aerospace engineering to building a global homeschool movement, and why the directed life is the only life that truly produces fruit. Whether you're a parent, a leader, or simply tired of the grind, this episode will reset your spirit. Technology is not a neutral force in the spiritual life.

It is either a tool for the Kingdom or a chain for the soul.

We live in an age of maximum speed and minimum presence. Artificial Intelligence promises to solve every problem while simultaneously eroding our capacity to hear the voice of the Father. This is the central crisis for the modern believer.

If we do not understand the spiritual mechanism behind our tools, we will find ourselves being formed by them instead of by the Holy Spirit.

The Sovereignty of Speed

The world wants you fast, but God wants you deep.

Artificial Intelligence is the pinnacle of human efficiency. It promises to do more in seconds than a human can do in a lifetime. Because of this, we have become addicted to performance and convenience.

We treat our walk with God like an algorithm. We want the fastest answer and the most immediate result. But the Kingdom of Heaven does not operate on high-speed internet.

Exodus 33:14 "And He said, 'My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.'"

Rest is the one thing technology cannot simulate. It is the signature of the Spirit's leadership. When we outsource our thinking and our discernment to machines, we lose the spiritual muscle required to wait on the Lord.

True fruitfulness comes from abiding, not from processing speed. If you are moving faster than the Holy Spirit, you are moving toward a cliff.

The High Cost of Outsourcing

You cannot outsource the discipleship of your children to a system and expect them to follow the Spirit.

Many families have handed over the formation of their kids to secular institutions and digital screens. They assume that if they provide the right tools, the outcome will be righteous. This is a deception of the enemy.

Education is not just about information. It is about spiritual formation. Every curriculum and every piece of technology has a spirit behind it.

If the spirit behind the tool is not the Holy Spirit, it is an idol. We are raising a generation that knows how to use an interface but does not know how to discern a spirit.

Proverbs 22:6 "Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it."

This training requires a slow, intentional presence that technology simply cannot replicate.

It requires a parent who is willing to be directed by God so they can direct their household. You cannot lead your children into a deep walk with God if you are constantly distracted by the digital noise of the culture.

Digital Discernment and the Antichrist Spirit

We must stop asking if a technology is "good" or "bad" and start asking who it is leading us to worship.

The spirit of the antichrist is characterized by a desire to remove the need for God. It wants to replace divine wisdom with human intelligence and spiritual authority with mechanical control.

AI and blockchain are not inherently demonic, but they are powerful vehicles for this spirit. They create an ecosystem where faith feels unnecessary because the system provides everything.

This is the wake-up call for the Church. We have become too comfortable with the efficiency of the world.

Romans 12:2 "And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God."

Renewal does not happen through an automated prompt. It happens through the fire of the Holy Spirit.

If we do not develop eyes to see the spiritual reality behind these innovations, we will walk right into the traps of the enemy. We will find ourselves building towers of Babel while thinking we are building the Kingdom.

The Strategy of the Directed Life

The only way to thrive in a digital age is to live a directed life.

This is more than just making good choices. It is a radical submission to the moment-by-moment leading of the Holy Ghost. It means being willing to look "slow" or "unproductive" in the eyes of the world so you can be faithful in the eyes of God.

Leigh Bortins understood this when she moved from aerospace engineering to the domestic sphere. On paper, it looked like a step backward into a smaller world. In the Spirit, it was the birth of a movement that would protect the hearts of thousands of children.

She chose the directed life over the high-performance life.

John 10:27 "My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me."

This voice is stiller and smaller than the loudest AI software. It requires us to disconnect from the grid so we can connect to the Throne.

When you are directed by the Spirit, you are no longer a victim of the times. You become a pioneer of the Kingdom. You stop reacting to the chaos of the culture and start responding to the command of the King.

The world is obsessed with what is next. The Church must be obsessed with Who is above.

Becoming a Digital Remnant

The days ahead will demand a people who are not easily shaken by technological shifts.

We are being called to a new level of spiritual authority. This authority does not come from mastery over machines, but from mastery over our own souls through the power of Christ.

We must equip our families to walk in the Spirit as a way of life. This means prioritizing the Word over the feed. It means choosing the hard work of deep thinking over the ease of digital shortcuts.

It means reclaiming the home as the primary site of spiritual warfare and discipleship.

Joshua 24:15 "And if it seems evil to you to serve the Lord, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve... But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord."

The choice is before us. We can let the tools of this age dictate our pace, or we can let the Holy Spirit dictate our path.

Technology will continue to evolve. The Antichrist will continue to attempt to mirror the power of God through artificial means. But the Spirit of Truth is already here.

He is calling you to slow down. He is calling you to listen.

He is calling you to live a life that is truly directed.

Take back your attention for the Kingdom.
