The local church is not a weekly social club for like-minded people.
It is a military outpost positioned on the front lines of a cosmic war. When we gather, we aren't just singing songs and listening to a lecture. We are establishing the authority of the Kingdom of God in a specific geographic location.
Mattie Montgomery lived this out in the most literal sense. Long before he was a pastor, he was the frontman for the hardcore band For Today. He stood on stages in demonic nightclubs where the air was thick with darkness.
The strategy was simple but lethal to the enemy. He didn't go in to "perform" for a crowd. He went in to host the Presence of God in the middle of a mosh pit.
He saw people cancel suicide plans and watched committed satanists fall to their knees. This happened because he understood that the light of the Gospel does not negotiate with darkness. It displaces it.
The Ekklesia Is a Governing Body
We have domesticated the word "church" into something that describes a building or a weekend event. But the original Greek word is Ekklesia. In Ancient Greece, this was a group of citizens called out to legislate and govern.
Jesus chose this specific word for a reason. He was not starting a new religion. He was establishing an embassy of Heaven on earth.
Matthew 16:18 "And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it."
Gates are defensive structures. They do not attack. They stay stationary to protect a city.
This means the Church is the one on the offensive. When the Ekklesia gathers in the power of the Holy Spirit, we are literally battering down the gates of hell to reclaim territory for the King.
The Danger of Misrepresenting the King
If the Church is an embassy, then the leaders are ambassadors. This is a terrifying level of responsibility. An ambassador does not speak his own opinion. He only speaks the official word of the government he represents.
Mattie pointed out a chilling reality about the life of Moses. God told Moses to speak to the rock to bring forth water. Instead, Moses struck the rock in anger.
He got the result he wanted because the water still flowed. But God was grieved because Moses misrepresented Him to the people.
Many leaders today are "striking the rock" to get results. They use manipulation, hype, and personality to grow a crowd. They might get the "water" of a large budget or a famous platform.
But if they misrepresent the character of God, they disqualify themselves from true Kingdom influence. God is looking for fathers who will protect the holiness of the pulpit.
He is not looking for influencers who want to use the Church to build their own brand. He is looking for men and women who will tremble at His Word and represent His heart with absolute integrity.
Spiritual Warfare Is Grounded in Obedience
We often think spiritual warfare is about shouting the loudest at the devil. We think it is a frantic struggle to hold onto our ground. But true warfare is actually much quieter and far more powerful.
It is found in the simple act of obedience. Darkness cannot withstand a person who is completely surrendered to the Holy Spirit.
The devil is not the equal and opposite power to God. He is a defeated foe who is trespassing on a planet that belongs to the Lord. Our job is not to win the war. Jesus already did that.
Our job is to enforce the victory that was already won at the cross. We do this by standing our ground.
Ephesians 3:10 "to the intent that now the manifold wisdom of God might be made known by the church to the principalities and powers in the heavenly places"
The Church is God's "I told you so" to the demonic realm. Our very existence as a unified, Spirit-filled body proves that the enemy has lost. When we walk in obedience, we strip the enemy of his legal right to operate in our lives and our cities.

Gathering the Remnant for Regional Takeover
God is currently sifting the American Church. The pressures of the last few years have exposed who was built on the rock and who was built on the sand of convenience.
A remnant is rising that no longer cares about being liked by the world. They are not interested in "playing church" or seeking a comfortable lifestyle. They want the raw, unadulterated power of the Holy Spirit.
This remnant understands that discipleship and deliverance must coexist. You cannot talk about the Kingdom without talking about casting out demons.
Jesus did not come to give us a better philosophy for living. He came to destroy the works of the devil and set the captives free.
The local church is the primary vehicle for this regional takeover. It is where sons and daughters are raised up to be spiritual warriors. It is where we find the strength to live "sent" into the darkest corners of culture.
Do not settle for a superficial faith that lacks power. Find a body of believers who are hungry for the presence of God. Stop watching from the sidelines and join the Ekklesia in the fight.
The gates of hell are trembling. It is time for the Church to move.
