The Warfare of Praying In Tongues with Kap Chatfield
What if you’re not stuck because you’re lazy… but because you’re fighting spiritual battles with natural tools? In this powerful conversation, Kap Chatfield sits down with Luke Reelfs to unpack something that completely shifted Kap’s own walk with God: the real, biblical power of praying in tongues. This isn’t hype. It’s not emotionalism. It’s a spiritual strategy. Kap shares personal moments of feeling overwhelmed, confused, and stretched by calling — and how praying in the Spirit brought clarity, strength, and breakthrough. Together, they break down what Scripture actually says about the Holy Spirit, spiritual warfare, and how praying in tongues helps you access wisdom you can’t reach with your mind alone. If you’ve been asking God for direction, power, or deeper intimacy — this conversation is for you. Stay to the end as Kap explains how to begin praying in the Spirit, and subscribe for more conversations about living a life directed by the Holy Spirit.
Praying in tongues is not a religious ritual; it is a tactical strike against the enemy.
Most Christians are trying to solve spiritual problems with natural strategies. You are exhausted because you are fighting a high-level war with a low-level arsenal. When you pray in the Spirit, you bypass your limited intellect and tap directly into the mind of God.
The Mechanism of Spiritual Intelligence
Your mind is a processor, but it is not the source of wisdom. There are dimensions of your calling that your natural brain cannot comprehend yet. You feel stuck because you are trying to think your way into a breakthrough that can only be birthed through intercession.
The Apostle Paul understood that our intellect has a ceiling. He wrote in 1 Corinthians 14:14 "For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my understanding is unfruitful." This is not a weakness. It is a massive spiritual advantage.
When your understanding is sidelined, your spirit is finally free to commune with the Father without the interference of your doubts or fears. You are speaking mysteries that the devil cannot decode. You are downloading blueprints for your future that your logic would try to talk you out of.
This is how you get clarity when the path forward looks like a fog. I have been in seasons where the pressure of my calling felt like it was going to crush me. I didn't need another therapist or a better business plan. I needed to engage my spirit man so I could hear what the Spirit was saying to the churches.
Bypassing the Gateway of Fear
Fear lives in the mind. It feeds on the "what ifs" and the calculations of human logic. But the Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Power, and He dwells in your innermost being.
Praying in tongues shifts the seat of authority in your life from your head to your heart. You stop reacting to the circumstances you see and start responding to the reality of the Kingdom. This is why the enemy hates this gift so much.
He wants you trapped in your mental processing because that is where he can influence you. He can't touch a prayer that is being whispered from the Holy Spirit through your spirit directly to the throne. That connection is a closed circuit that no demon can tap into.
That is why you often feel a sense of peace after praying in the Spirit for an extended time. You didn't necessarily solve the problem in the natural. But you killed the fear that was making the problem look bigger than your God.
Building the Inner Reservoir
You cannot pour from an empty cup, and you cannot lead culture if you are spiritually dehydrated. Jude provides the blueprint for how we sustain ourselves in the middle of a crooked generation. He tells us how to keep our internal fire burning.
Jude 1:20 "But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit." This is the mechanism for spiritual edification. It is like plugging your soul into a high-voltage charging station.
When I am overwhelmed or stretched by my calling, I don't just work harder. I pray more in the Spirit. I have found that twenty minutes of praying in tongues provides more rejuvenation than five hours of sleep.
It builds a reservoir of strength that allows you to stand firm when the world is shaking. You are not just saying words. You are literally fortifying your spiritual walls.
If you don't build yourself up, you will eventually burn out. You weren't designed to carry the weight of your destiny on your own shoulders. You were designed to be a vessel for the power of the Holy Spirit, and tongues is the faucet that lets that power flow.

Accessing Hidden Wisdom
God has hidden things for you, not from you. There are strategies for your family, your business, and your ministry that are currently locked in the Spirit. You cannot access them through a Google search.
1 Corinthians 2:7 "But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, the hidden wisdom which God ordained before the ages for our glory." These mysteries are accessed when we pray in the Spirit. We are literally speaking the hidden wisdom of God into our current reality.
I have seen this work in real time. I will be facing a massive decision with no clear answer. I will start praying in tongues, and suddenly, an idea will drop into my spirit. It isn't a logical progression. It's a revelation.
That is the "word of wisdom" in action. It’s a supernatural fragment of God’s knowledge given to you for a specific moment. You cannot manufacture this. You can only receive it.
So, stop over-analyzing your problems. Stop trying to figure out how God is going to fix the situation. Start praying in the Holy Spirit and watch the fog lift.
How to Step Into the Flow
Receiving this gift is simpler than most people make it. It is not about reaching a state of religious ecstasy or feeling a certain emotion. It is an act of faith and a surrender of your physical members to the Spirit of God.
In Acts 2:4, the Bible says "And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance." Notice the order. They were filled, they spoke, and the Spirit gave the utterance.
The Holy Spirit will not force your mouth open. He provides the "unction," but you provide the voice. You have to take the step of faith to speak out what is bubbling up from your spirit.
It might sound like a single syllable at first. It might feel clunky to your natural mind. That doesn't matter. Your spirit knows exactly what it is doing.
The more you use this gift, the more the flow will increase. You will find that your spiritual ears become more sensitive. You will find that your authority in prayer carries more weight in the second heaven.
Don't leave this weapon on the shelf. You are in a war, and the King has given you the ultimate tactical advantage. Open your mouth and let the Spirit pray through you.
Take back your territory.
